Tokai Registry NAMM 2002 Report

Date:February, 2002

Author:Ned Cullen

Over the next few days I'll add more to this report but to wet your appetite here is the Tokai USA booth.
As you can see the front entrace to the Anaheim Convention Center was all decked out for the show. The convention center was absolutely huge, the biggest I've ever seen and all but a small space in the basement was taken up. Yamaha was in the Mariot next door.
Here is the new Love Rock headstock shape for North America, notice no dimple at the top.
Here is the new North American Love Rock body - horn is more rounded than a typical Les Paul.
Close up of the NLS70F - pretty sweet flame.
How about a 335 replica in Tobacco sunburst? This is the NES120 model.
How about some Talbos: Collection of new Love Rocks, all Japanese.
How about some Talbos: NES120 (335 Replica) Talbo Woody, Talbo A-123 and a Talbo Jr.
This is the floor display with the new prototype guitar a Love Rock Supreme DLX. Pretty cool and very light.
Love Rock Gold Top with P90s. I am a freak for Gold Tops although I prefer PAF's instead of P90s.
Talbo Woody with clear pick guard. But a small blue light behind that and you have a seriously trick stage rig.
And one of the coolest moments at the show...
Mike Palermo (Mike's Music) and I hangin' with Brad Gillis of Night Ranger and Ozzie fame.

The folks at Everyly Music, as in the Everly Brothers, hooked us up with their strings to test. They claim instant improvement in tone because their strings are that much better than the competitions. I had just re-strung my Strat with D'Adario 10-46's and quickly laid a short 2 measure track down in Cakewalk. When I re-string with the Everly's I'll record the same 2 measures and you can hear for yourselves.

Also, they have these new picks, see picture, with a hole in the middle. If you have problems (like I do) with the pick slipping when you play then these babies are the answer. I've been using mine for 2 days and the pick has yet to move.

Being the car freak that I am... these straps made out of seatbelt material and buckles are pretty cool.

Of course having booth decor such as these probably didn't help to get people to stop and look either.
Now I thought this was an original idea for a case. Coffin shaped cases, even the inside of the case looked like the inside of a coffin.

We spent the day discussing quantum physics...
