Neds Guitar Gear

I though some of you might like to see some of my gear. This isn't anywhere close to all of it but it will give you some idea. All the product links will take you to ZZounds.com where you can purchase the items to help support the site.

Amps

I've got 2 primary amps a silver face Fender Champ and a Dean Markley RM-40-DR that I run through a blue Crate 1x12 enclosure. The Dean Markley has 2 seperate channels with 1 12AX7 tube in the pre-amp. Channel 1 lets you disengage the tube for a super clean sound. I love this amp.

Guitars

Right my three main guitars that I play are my Tokais. The Talbo and AST-33 are tuned to Eb and the Love Rocks is tuned to E (standard). The Tokai's are hung on the wall using a String Swing. The hanger hold the guitar a good 3-4 inches from the wall and I have never had the guitar brush against the wall. The other cool thing is the wife thinks it's pretty cool where as she didn't like the guitars out on the stand. Also keeps my baby's out of the dogs reach. Finally I am using Everly Music Picks exclusively, they have a star shape cut out in the middle which keeps the pick from shifting in your hand.

I also have a Inca Silver 1996 Fender USA Strat that I've added a trem setter and locking Sperzel tuners. I also have a Kramer Focus 1000 that is a total piece that I use to practice outside on nice days. The Kramer has a Jackson humbucker installed.

Recording Stuff

Since we've started a home recording forum on the message board here is my basic recording setup. In the rack is a Rack Rider power strip, Ensoniq SQR (yeh it's old) synth module and Furman 20 insert patch bay. On the desktop is a Midiman Multimixer 6, Midiman Audio Buddy mic pre and a Line6 POD 2.0. On top of the rack is a Roland TR707 drum machine and yes behind that is a picture of Spinal Tap. Connecting all this stuff are three 8 channel snakes with RCA to 1/4" connectors - the patch bay has RCA connectors on the back. Data capture on the PC is accomplished with the M-Audio Delta 66 which has 4 in/out and SPDIF in/out as well.

Once I grabbed the Line6 GuitarPort my POD became redundant. The amazing thing is I actually sold something. Since then Line6 has released a new POD - PODXT. I use Twelve Tone Systems Cakewalk software for hard disk recording.

Rack Effects

Here are my rack effects which are all guitar processors. You'll notice I'm a huge Rockman nut and really love this stuff and hope to have the full collections someday. Heres the rack: Juice Goose Power conditioner on the top, ADA MP1 (for those 80's sounds) into the Rockman Smartgate into the Rockman Stereo Echo. The Smartgate really tames the noise on the MP1 and Eddie Van Halen uses these to quiet his 5150's. The Stereo Echo is pretty awesome too, really close to a tape echo. These are probably the 2 best pieces of Rockman stuff you can get. From the Stereo Echo I go into a Hughes and Kettner Red Box Pro set for a 4x12 cab. This plugs into the Midiman Audio Buddy via the XLR connection on the rear.

Jim Dunlop has released a new version of the Rockman Smartgate under their MXR brand. I spoke with the engineer (who was Tom Scholz's personal engineer) and they have made some improvements in the design.

The other stuff isn't hooked up yet (cord shortage) but consists of the following: Rockman Sustainer Model 200, Rockman Instrument Equalizer, Rockman Guitar Compressor, Rockman Distortion Generator, Rockman Stero Chorus (another good piece) and a Rockman Midi Octopus.

The bottom of the rack consists of a Kenwood dual cassette deck which is connected to the patchbay with the outputs of the Midiman Multimixer going to the inputs on the tape deck. Below the tape deck is a 2 space rack drawer where I keep cords and manuals.

While I was shooting these pics my dog Maggie decided to investigate, you can see her behind the amps, so I though I would include a picture of herself. Maggie is a 2.5 year old Portugese Water Dog.
